Counseling
About Counseling
A professional, confidential process where individuals or groups work with a licensed clinical mental health clincian therapist to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
According to the American Counseling Association, professional counselors “help people gain personal insights, develop strategies and come up with real solutions to the problems and challenges we all face in every area of life. As trained and credentialed professionals, they accomplish this by getting to know clients, by building safe, positive relationships and suggesting tools and techniques they believe will benefit clients.”
A “therapist” is a general term for a clinician who helps individuals address mental health concerns. This term is often used to describe professionals with different levels of training, including those with master’s or doctorate degrees. For instance, while a therapist commonly holds a master’s degree, a psychologist with a doctoral degree can also be referred to as a therapist.
Master’s level therapists often hold degrees such as Licensed Mental Health Clinician (LCMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Their training focuses on treatment and practical techniques but also includes studies in theory, human development, societal influences, and policy, giving them a well-rounded understanding of mental health care.
Benefits Counseling
The positive outcomes such as improved mental health, coping strategies, emotional regulation, relationship skills, self-awareness, and personal growth.
Counseling offers a wide range of positive outcomes that can significantly enhance your well-being. It helps improve mental health by providing a space to explore your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, leading to a better understanding of yourself. You’ll develop coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and life’s challenges more effectively.
Through counseling, you can also improve emotional regulation, learning how to navigate intense feelings with more balance and control. Relationship skills are strengthened as you discover healthier ways to communicate and connect with others. Additionally, counseling fosters self-awareness and personal growth, empowering you to recognize patterns, make positive changes, and reach your full potential in both personal and professional areas of life.
Who can Benefit From Counseling
Counseling is for everyone, whether they are struggling with a specific issue or simply seeking personal growth and self-improvement.
List common challenges or life events that counseling can help address, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, stress, life transitions, relationship issues, self-esteem concerns, and more.
Grief and Loss: The death of a loved one or the loss of something significant (a relationship, a job, etc.) can cause intense grief. Therapy provides a space for people to process their emotions and find ways to cope with the pain.
Addiction and Substance Abuse: Individuals struggling with addiction may seek therapy to get help in managing their dependence on substances or behaviors. Therapy offers a supportive environment to address the root causes of addiction and learn strategies for recovery.
Emotional Distress or Mental Health Issues: People may seek therapy when dealing with depression, anxiety, overwhelming stress, or other mental health conditions. Therapy can help them understand and manage their emotions in a healthier way.
Trauma Recovery: Experiencing trauma, such as abuse, loss, or a major life event, can leave deep emotional scars. Therapy can help individuals process and heal from the effects of trauma, providing them with coping mechanisms and emotional support.

What to Expect in a Session
We would like to demystify the process.
The sessions will include elements like goal-setting, open discussions, and the creation of a non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and supported. An intake session is where the therapist gathers information to understand the client’s history, challenges, and therapy goals.
